visited around the world, Tokyo Narita and old Hong Kong Kai-tak Airport are
both his favorites.
Stephen has been working in the Taiwan civil aviation industry over 10 years,
and can't enjoy more with the life in the airport because he could be accompanied
by his beloved airplanes everyday. He also worked for Airway Magazine as a free-lance
photographer for 2 years and half.
Besides aviation photography, Stephen also collects airplane models. He has
a big collection of over 400 ones, mostly 1/400 and 1/500 die-cast metal, together
with some of 1/200 plastic models which he painted himself.

Eric Chen
Eric Chen, who is 28 years old and still taking the master course now. He was
living besides a small military airport in southern Taiwan and wanted to be
a pilot. But now he chooses another way of life but is still taking aviation
photo as his main hobby. He had visited many Japanese military/civilian airports
during the past years, and the only purpose of visiting Japan is taking aviation
photos. If you need any information about the Japanese aviation, Eric could
be a good advisor and resource lead.

John C.H. Li
John Li, 33 years old, has been taking aviation pictures and collecting airplane
models for 7 years. John established his interest in the industry from his experience
working in the travel agency, and he is now the area manager of 7-11 chain stores

interested in military aviation when he was young. Rommel collects and makes airplane
models over 10 years, but now he just collects civil airplane models, mostly 1/400
die-cast metal ones. He has been taking aviation photographs for 3 years, mostly civil
in southern Taiwan (Kaohsiung). Rommel is now running as a MIS engineer in a semiconductor
company, and acts as a image screener/executive editor in ASIA.

Michael Chen
Michael Chen, at the age of 39, has been fascinated by aircrafts since he was a
junior high school boy. Majored in Business Administration back in college, he once
wanted to go to the states pursuing his MBA degree after serving his military service
then he decided to stay with his true love, the airline business, after joining a US
carrier as a flight OPS agent back in 1992.
After working 3 different positions within the company, Michael is now a crew member
of his airline based in Tokyo. Working on airplanes has been giving him a lot of
opportunities to observe in the cockpit, experiencing real operation of the airliner.
As far as photographing is concerned, he considers himself an amateur. "I am just taking
advantage of my occupation." said Michael. The most astonishing scene he had ever seen
is a head-on close-in of his 747-400 to a 767-300 during cruise with only 1000 feet
separation vertically. "With the TCAS warnings, that was such a thrill and surely a
Kodak moment!" Michael recalled. Yet it is a shame that he did not have a camera with
him. Now he brings his camera most of the time when he flies. Other unusual experiences
that he has in his career are that he has so far 4 go-arounds on 4 different types of
aircraft at 4 different airports, 2 fuel stops, 2 diversions and one of them was due to
the September 11th incident.

Ryan C.Y. Wang
Ryan C.Y. Wang, 28 years old, majored in shipping & transportation management in
University. He thought he could learn some aviation industrial knowledge from his major
but in vain, the school just doesn't provide any at all. Wang kept his enthusism about
aviation since high school, studied hard to get low pass of those boring subjects such
as naval shipping and fleet management, and became a member of ramp service company in
the airport after Marine Corp service.
He loves the life now! "It's just simply happy to work among airplanes," Ryan says,
"and I am in the airliners parking business now!"

Macphil Wen
Macphil Wen, 30 years old, has been taking aviation photos for 3 years, mostly in

aviation photography and listening real-time ATC radio!

Susumu Tokunaga
Mr. Tokunaga began to take airplane photos at Junior High School in mid 60's. His
primary interest then was the militaly planes, but it viased to US Navy aircrafts
because of their colorful paint scheme. Regratefully Tokunaga could only use black and
white photo, for the color film was very expensive at that time.
Tokunaga's business career did not allow me to go to airport for photographing, though
he had hundreds of time being in the airports for business trips. So Tokunaga decided
to take early retirement last year and recent colorful commercial airplanes drew him
back into photographing airplanes after 25 years of absence.
Beside the photographing, Tokunaga took the private pilot license last year and enjoy
flying from nearby Chofu airport.

Joseph Y.H. Ting
Joseph Ting, was born on 1974, now is a pilot cadet of China Airlines and under taking the fly
training program in BAE System Adelaide, Australia. Joseph has a father as an air force pilot and
been involved into aviation field deeply with the pilots all around his life. Also attracted by the
fantastic aviation transportation jets, he made up his mind to been a professional pilot as a life
career. After the long research job in the graduated school in Civil Engineering, Joseph applied CAL
for ab-initio pilot training on 2003.
Beside the professional fields, he is also interesting taking photograph for airplanes and nature
topics. Hopefully, he will take and share much more great shots in aviation with the opportunity of
working in the highest office in the world.

Michael van der Mee
Born on the 9th of September 1973, Michael started spotting in 1987 on the nearby Soesterberg Air Base,
Netherlands. While the 32nd TFS was based there, he spend much of his spare time on the old spotters
place next to the taxiways. After a while, the hobby expanded to abroad and the first "foreign" visits
were made to the now closed RAFG bases at Bruggen and Wildenrath in Germany. Next was the UK with the
Air fetes at Mildenhall and visits to RAF Upper Heyford, Bentwaters/Woodbridge etc. After the collapse
of the communist Eastern Europe and the forthcoming draw down of US and other Air forces in Europe he
decided to quit spotting and focus on his career.
After working for more then 10 years in various management functions for a big Dutch department store,
it was time for something completely different and he decided to start his own company under the name
of Touchdown. The company now consists on 2 websites with the main focus being the camera/photography
store at www.touchdown-photo.nl. The other site is more based on the revived hobby of spotting.
Together with the other members of the team he works hard to make Touchdown Aviation an interesting
site to share info and publicize our reports and photos. One of his photos was used for the French
translation of the F-16C manual for the Falcon flight simulator.
